Pan from Studio McVey, a review
Wow,
I were really happy to find a little package from the UK in my mailbox today and to find out that it was from Studio McVey. I was stunned by the mood and sculpt they showed us of Pan last week and I placed an order instantly. It only took six days in total (with a weekend included) for it to get all the way from them to Dangereux abode in the deepest and darkest woods of Sweden. This means that they must have post it the same day as I ordered or the day after at the latest.
Anyway, opened the package, all parts appart from the base were in a zip lock bag with bouble wrap around it. As soon as I got the pieces out I was impressed by the superior quality, it actually is the best resin sculpt Ive ever seen. Ive been in the hobby for many years and Ive never seen anything quite like this. I think the Rackham Legends range get close to this but still, this is a whole step better. No mold lines present at all. The resin is odour less and totally bouble free and in a bright gray colour.Only a very very thin piece of flash on the model that will come of easy.
The details of the sculpt is incredible and the pose is very dynamic. I understood that the fairies would be tiny but they are even tinier than what I had imagined. As you can see from the images the heads are around 1,5-2mm and still have visible expressions.
With the package there’s also a certificate signed by Mike. I apparently got the 38th of 750. A nice touch. I would have hoped it to be printed on better paper with some weight and texture though. This would emphasise the extreme quality of the sculpt even more. So this is my only complaint.
I can wholeheartedly recomend this miniature to any high end painter that want something different and if you like me love fairytales it is a must buy.
I must give it as high a grade as 9.5 of 10
